Starting September 1st, yep- SEPTEMBER- “National Food Safety Month” (ha!)- the new Texas Cottage Food Law goes into effect. What has been illegal up until now will become legal. HOME BAKING BUSINESSES. Please get to know your “baker”, folks! New home based businesses are not allowed to be inspected by the health department, not required to have liability insurance, not asked to take any food handling courses, not mandated or even encouraged to install a grease trap to protect the city’s water system. Remember- one person’s idea of cleanliness in their kitchen is different than another person’s.  If you choose to have the “cake lady” down the street make your next cake, please think twice, and call us!
